HDPE Equivalent to HPPE Pipes?

HDPE Equivalent to HPPE Pipes?

HDPE Equivalent to HPPE Pipes?

(OP)
I am currently involved in a sewerage scheme, where we have specified a pipe - 160mm OD Black (PE100) SDR 17.6 - 10 Bar.
One of the main suppliers has stated that he does not have HPPE, he only has HDPE.

Is it ok to use this, and what is the HDPE rquivalent?
The supplier stated that a HDPE (Pe100) SDR 11 - 10 Bar would be equivalent?

RE: HDPE Equivalent to HPPE Pipes?

The pressure rating looks to be equivalent, but the inside diameter for SDR 11 pipe will be significantly less than SDR 17.6

Since flow characteristic for the two materials are similar, the smaller ID will create both higher velocity and friction losses, which is probably not desirable - suggest that you check your calcs with the reduced ID.

RE: HDPE Equivalent to HPPE Pipes?

As far as I am aware the specification you state i.e PE100 is a specification for HDPE pipe. I may be wrong but I think that the wall thickness / SDR values are different because both are not PE100 they may be using a different grade of PE. For example an older generation of PE would need a greater wall thickness for the same pressure rating.
