Toolbox not installing from admin image

Toolbox not installing from admin image

Toolbox not installing from admin image

(OP)
Hello,

I recently installed SW 2006 on 2 machines from an admin image on the server using the command line. Both machines run Windows XP. The trouble is that the toolbox did not install even though I had specified it. The command I used was as follows:

msiexec /i english_i386_solidworks.msi INSTALLDIR="C:\Program Files\Solidworks" TOOLBOXFOLDER="O:\SOLIDWORKS" OFFICEOPTION=1 SOLIDWORKSSERIALNUMBER="0000 0040 XXXX XXXX" REGCODE=391CC3HB UPGRADESWINSTALL=1 /qb+ /l "\\fdi-s01\support\SW ADMIN IMAGE\LOGS\fdi-c03_sw2006sp4.1.log ADDLOCAL=English,SolidWorks,AddIns,SupportedLanguages,SolidWorksTaskScheduler,FeatureWorks,SolidWorksToolbox,SolidWorksUtilities,SolidWorksDesignChecker

Any suggestions as to why?

Thank you,

Is Toolbox installed on the server?

ctopher,

I didn't actually install SW on the server, I just created an admin image. The toolbox folder is on the same server as the admin image, accessible by all computers on the network.

I'm not sure if that makes sense or answers your question...

RE: Toolbox not installing from admin image

Whatever pc you got the admin image from had a link to the Toolbox. The pc's you installed AI, will not find the link. I always install SW on the server and do all updates there, and create the AI from there. Nothing lost. Go to each pc and recreate the Toolbox link.

I did create the Admin Image on the server, but SW is not installed on the server. Now that I'm at this point, is it possible to install SW on the server without recreating the admin image or reinstalling all the computers? Would that allow me to install each computer from the admin image and get a working toolbox?

To clariy, what I'm trying to accomplish is to have an admin image on the server. Then install all computers from that image. The differences would be specified via the properties documented in the SW installation guide which is primarily the serial numbers and registration codes. I'm gathering that this is only possible if I have a working installation of SW on the server with an admin image created from that?

Hope this clarifies it. I've gotten a lot of conflicting information, so I'm trying to sort through it.

Thanks,

RE: Toolbox not installing from admin image

Make SW installed working on the server. Change all settings how you want. Recreate the admin image. Go to each pc and reinstall admin image. From that point, make all future updates, changes, etc on the server only. Pc's will auto update after they run SW. If you have a lot of users, this will save you alot of time for any future changes and updates.

Thanks. I'm not sure what to do to create the image from the SW server installation rather than directly from the CD's.

Now to take it a bit further, can I do the installs silently, as in via the command line, or will that not work the same?

RE: Toolbox not installing from admin image

The CD's don't have your location for Toolbox.
You need to install SW on the server with all links setup.

CorBlimeyLimey,

I've got those references and have read them. I'm following the examples, but its not working as I stated in the first post. I can't see anything wrong with my command and I had installed SW on other systems prior to that with no problems. The only difference being that this time I installed from the command line with a silent install rather than by clicking on the swsetup.exe file.

The other thing not clear to me is how to create an admin image from the working SW installation on the server rather than from the cd itself.

Thank you,
