Calcium Chloride

Calcium Chloride

(OP)
Being in commercial construction, I don't allow calcium chloride in concrete mixes because we are working with reinforced concrete construction and obviously am concerned about corrosion of the steel.

I know sometimes, residential contractors will order a driveway mix that often has 1/2% or so calcium chloride. ACI's requirements allow some "water soluable chloride ions" in mixes. How do I convert the 1/2% to the amount of water soluable ions to see if this amount is acceptable?

RE: Calcium Chloride

Don't have a clue how you convert the calcium chloride, however, 1/2% is a common amount to use in unreinforced flat work.

We allow it in street pavements being constructed by and for the City.
