What are other users thoughts on Femap Express in Solid Edge V18? Are you getting consistant results or have there been some queries over displacements etc?

Has anyone had any results validated/verified?

Many thanks

Simon

RE: Femap Express

Simon,

here a smal excerpt from another newsgroup which I think says
it all:

[cite]
I realize if I want to do serious FEA I
need to buy the full blown package, either Femap or one of the others. But
now when I ask for the full blown package now I get: "Doesn't SE have FEA
now?" or "Hey XXX, can you run an FEA on that part in SE and let me know if
we can increase the diameter of the grease passage in that pin?", "No? Well
why not?". Beyond that, back to one of my really old arguments, if something
is critical and/or human life is at stake, I know enough to turn the
analysis over to someone who knows way more about FEA than I do and has the
right software to do the job.

RE: Femap Express

Simon,

just by accident I found one additional comment to this posted
by someone on reply to the foregoing:

If you want a good indication of what can go wrong with FEA in the wrong hands, ask a Vendor for certification for their software, or better yet, tell them your using it to design Nuclear components. From what I've been quoted and told, it usually more than doubles the cost and maintenance fees. I wasn't interested, but out curiosity when asked if I was going to perform any analysis on Nuclear components, I asked why, and when I heard the answer it made sense. I would bet the extra money goes right to insurance, and then hope to keep the Trial Lawyers away.

Once again, if need analysis good enough for you to sign off on, you best use the pros, and use FEMAP express for general design considerations.
