I will provide pictures for anyone who wishes to see if neccessary, so i want to challege the community. I know there is alot of very intelligent engineers here and I really think the people here can solve this issue so dont be afraid to throw out an idea, lets get scientific with this and share our knowledge on this subject and over come this difficulty, some questions id first like to ask are:

who provides this type of component?

Is there a substitute i could use?

what equipment do i need to attach this component to the mainboard?

Is there any more information i can provide you with?

thank you,
heyballookey

RE: Laptop keyboard cable Connector replacement

There are so many kinds of ribbon "cable" (some are not cable but flexible p.c.b.)and corresponding connector systems that you need to provide pictures first.

That points to your login page and no images.

RE: Laptop keyboard cable Connector replacement

All these photos are too out of focus to gain much information, except perhaps the first one. This seems to show a flexible film coming from the keyboard rather than a ribbon cable. The flexible film connectors I have used come with an rectangular socket/receptacle slot and a clamp bar to retain the flexible film once it has been inserted into the socket. These can pull free, so are you sure it's actually broken?

yeah its been ripped out of the motherboard and broken in half, is it possible to get a new connector that fits the specs?

RE: Laptop keyboard cable Connector replacement

It's really hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like those might be FFC/FPC connectors.  Molex makes a bunch of those things, as well as Hirose and AVX.

If the connector has been ripped out of the motherboard, you may have a bigger problem with lifted pads and traces than you will with finding a replacement connector.
