Looking for Ball Gear

Looking for Ball Gear

Looking for Ball Gear

(OP)
For new product development, we are looking for a plastic ball gear to fit on a 1/4" shaft that will handle a max 25 deg angular change. Any ideas of where such an item may be sourced, or an OEM who may be using such an item will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, K.

RE: Looking for Ball Gear

Have not heard of a Ball Gear?
Can you be more descriptive?

RE: Looking for Ball Gear

diamondjim, Appreciate your taking time to consider and respond to my posting. What I am familiar with as a "Ball Gear" is a gear blank that resembles a sphere instead of a flat disk. The teeth are cut on the outside diameter and the pitch line follows the shperical shape. The only experienced I have for these types of gears is in a u-joint type application. Hope this helps. Thanks, K.

RE: Looking for Ball Gear

Might you be talking about a "crowned" gear tooth coupling? The internal is cut as a conventional internal spur and the external's pitch line follows a radius, usually the same radius as the blank's O.D., pretty much as you're suggesting. The external ends up looking like an excessively crowned gear.

Thanks gearcutter. That's exactly what I am talking about. It is always helpful to know the correct name. Appreciate your help. K.

RE: Looking for Ball Gear

Bowex coupling made by KTR sounds like what you are describing. I don't think it will accomodate that much misalignment though.
