Newbie Thermal Expansion Question

Newbie Thermal Expansion Question

Newbie Thermal Expansion Question

(OP)
Hello,
I want to find out the time it took x length of SA-210 steel to cool to a given temperature.  Unfortunately I cannot get to my references as I am on travel.  Does anyone have the equation to calculate that?  If possible I would also like the coeff. of thermal expansion.
Thanks alot for the help,
Joe

RE: Newbie Thermal Expansion Question

The time to cool steel can be calculated assuming Newtonian Cooling using the Lumped Capacitance Method.

Coefficient of thermal expansion for SA 210 carbon steel boiler tubing is typically
~6.7 X 10^-6 in/in/deg F up to about 400 deg F.

RE: Newbie Thermal Expansion Question

Time also depends on how it's cooled, e.g., forced vs natural convection or conduction?
