Self Compacting Concrete Uses

Self Compacting Concrete Uses

Self Compacting Concrete Uses

(OP)
I work for a heavy civil firm and we are investigating areas that can benefit from using self compacting concrete (SCC).  I was hoping to draw from the experience of others who have used the product.  A few of my questions are as follows:

Due to the flowable nature of the mix, what grade or slope can the top surface be finished? (1%,5%, etc..)

Over what length will the mix flow?

How much control does the supplier have over these properties?

Can the supplier adjust the mix design to allow the concrete to be placed on a 5% slope and still be considered SCC?

Any input would be appreciated.

RE: Self Compacting Concrete Uses

I see no one is responsing, so I will.

SCC is nothing more then a SUPER SUPER platicized concrete that does not segrate.  The workiblity and flowable of the mix can be adjusted.  Consolidation methods have to be change based on the mix's spread.

EX.  18 to 22" spreads  light vibration
22 to 25" very very light vibration to none.  Typical only at plates and embeds.

1.  2 to 3 %
2. I have seen 20 to 30 feet  Watch segration
3. The mix design and flow is very dependent on the properties .  So the supplier must have control.

4.  I would call it a modified SCC mix.  But just because it has a SCC admixture it does not make it a SCC mix.  I would treat a mix on a 5% slope a normal SCC mix as far as testing.
