Extrude Along Z

Extrude Along Z

Extrude Along Z

(OP)
Here's a basic question, but up thru R-2004, I've always used the Z-Direction to control my extrude direction. I'm now using 2006 (with a brief layover at 2005) and the Z-Direction isn't helping. Is there a setting or technique that I was using unawares, in previous versions that caused extrudes to go in the direction of Z?

Tks-
C.Fee

RE: Extrude Along Z

I thought it always goes in the the Z-direction (positive -Up Negative Down) depending on your view setting. Looks like it still works the same to me.

RE: Extrude Along Z

Check your current UCS

RE: Extrude Along Z

(OP)
Nope-
I posted the question because I wasn't getting extrusions in the positive-Z direction as expected,so that's not it, and Any current UCS has a "Z" direction, so that's not it  either.

I'm curious- what's the "view setting" it may be "depending on" ?

Tks-

RE: Extrude Along Z

It the view pull down then 3d view. Mine is always set at top. What ever it is set at X-axis right left, y-axis up down and z-axis toward you away from you.

RE: Extrude Along Z

I have never had this problem.  Is the object in the XY plane?  What direction is the extrusion following?  Is it consistent?

RE: Extrude Along Z

(OP)
Yes there's no clue from the view orientation that I can see, either. I've never had this problem either. I'll check back, but for now I'm stumped. The direction seems consistently negative-Z which is ok, I can move the part into the correct position, it's just a step I really shouldn't have to add.
Thanks guys-
C. Fee

RE: Extrude Along Z

So it extrudes along th Z axis, but negative?  Are your units set for angles clockwise or CCW?  Don't know if it makes a difference, but...
