Welding ChromeMolly?

Welding ChromeMolly?

Welding ChromeMolly?

(OP)
Hi,
I'm installing a roll cage in a race car.  I'm using ChromeMolly (spelling?) 4130.  I was planing on using ER80S-D2 filler rod, but the box was labled wrong and I was given ER80S-B2 Filler rod instead.  I have welded about 1/4 of the bar in.  I now have the correct filler rod, but my question is, am I ok with what I welded so far?  Or do I need to cut out what I've welded and start over.

Thanks in advance.
SCott

RE: Welding ChromeMolly?

Either consumable is acceptable for your application. Preheat to ~ 250F is recommended, but on thin wall tubing with the GTAW process is not absolutely necessary.
