Steel Lintel for Existing Concrete Opening
Steel Lintel for Existing Concrete Opening
(OP)
On one of my buildings the subcontractor increased the size of the louver openings in the basement walls. As a result I can not longer rely on the reinforcement in the concrete to carry the beam.
I was hoping to install a channel on the inside face of the wall to span the opening and carry the load to the concrete walls on either side. (Installing a lintel on each side of the wall is not an option, nor is putting a support inside of the opening.)
Is there a way to view the channel and concrete beam as a transform section? From what I have read both materials have to have elastic properties.
Thanks so much!
