BOM item numbers...???

BOM item numbers...???

BOM item numbers...???

(OP)
When I create a BOM for a product and each part is given a number, that number is carried over for every other Product BOM.

i.e.  If part A is item #5 in Product AA BOM, when I create a new Product (BB), part A is still item #5, regardless of where it is listed.

Is there anyway around this?

RE: BOM item numbers...???

I think the item # is saved with the part.

Try changing the properties of the part and delete the part instance number, and save the part. Then try it in the new product (BB) and see if it renumbers it.

(it's been awhile since I did this)

RE: BOM item numbers...???

In assembly mode you can generate numbering - you can keep or replace the numbers.

Derek

I found the problem.  I still had the original assembly open.
Once I closed out the original assembly and created a new assembly, the component could be renumbered.  I guess if the original assembly is open, the item number must be associated some how.
