Bronze Bearing Press Fit Formula

(OP)
Hello.  Does anyone know of a formula/advice for the pressing in of a sintered bronze bearing into steel or aluminum - in so much as not effecting the ID of the bearing, but still keeping a press fit?  Thank you.

Suggest a light press fit Class FN1.

Lame's Equation can be used, which is an alternate form of the Von Mises-Hencky Equation for Thick Walled Pressure Vessels.  You can find several websites by search under those key words.

Also, the University of Tennessee does an excellent job with an Advanced Mechanical Engineering lecture on this subject.  The notes are complete with equations and a worked example.

If you are in a hurry go to this site and select your bearing size and send to the calculator.

Machinery's Handbook has some simplified formulas that can be helpful.

In general, and especially for thin bushings, it's not possible to get a press fit on the o.d. that does not also alter the i.d.
