(OP)
I am looking to apply an abrasive textured surface to a run of many noryl, or similar ridged plastic, components. I have been looking into both applying the texture to the mold and replicating that when forming the components and also the possibility of spoiling the surface after the component has been formed. If any one has any good ideas of a viable process that may be used at either of the stage of production I would be glad to hear from you.

Thanks for all your help
Ben Colman

Best way is to texture the mold. Find Mold-Tech on the web. They will help you.

I have put many textures on molds in the past.  There are times when we used Mold-Tech as insideman has mentioned.  Another option is to simply EDM the finish on yourself.  We have done this more often than not and it works just fine.  The key is determining what EDM power settings you need in order to match the required texture.  Your EDM supplier should be able to help you with that.

Good luck.

what about mixing the abrasive e.g. sand into the plastic?

Dear Ben,

Please check our website at www.sarcolinc.com

We have a patent ceramic cast-to-size process in which we can provide tools for complex detailing and contours. We have been very successful in achieving deep countours and unique shapes that CANNOT be achieved through machining and etching.

Please visit our site and contact us if you think that this can be what you are looking for.

Sergio Rodriguez
