FILE OPEN ERROR #3

FILE OPEN ERROR #3

FILE OPEN ERROR #3

(OP)
We've been getting frequent FILE OPEN ERROR #3 errors during analysis using ETABS (and other CSI programs). It is widespread over many company computers and seems to come and go. It is not exclusive to any one model and has happened using any version of ETABS above 8.50 thus far (including 9.0.2 and 9.0.5).

CSI has told me to disable our antivirus software and indexing services, which I've tried, but with no luck.

Anyone have any experience with this error, or better yet, a potential solution? Thanks.

Anyone?

RE: FILE OPEN ERROR #3

I am having the same problem, if I come up with a solution I will post it. If someone else does please let us know, it is getting very frustrating.

RE: FILE OPEN ERROR #3

Uninstalling Google Desktop seemed to do the trick form me:).  Found out the possibility by CSI's response to an email I sent them asking about the error #3 problem:

QUOTE:

"... During analysis, program open and close several files. If program try to open a closed file and if this file is deleted or locked then File Read Error # 3 will terminate analysis. The most common reasons for File deletion or locked file is as follows:

1) User is saving file to a network drive where network connection is slow. Program closes a file and try to open this file again which is still being saved at network folder. The remedy is to save model to a local disk drive.

2) turn off MSN Indexing software i.e., MSN Desktop Search or Google Search toolbars.

3) Live back-up when ETABS or SAP2000 is executed."
