Tangent assy. constraint?

Tangent assy. constraint?

Tangent assy. constraint?

(OP)
I have an assembly, which has an o-ring positioned in a c'sing (Cone shape).

How do I assy the o-ring into the c'sink so that it is tangent to the c'sink surface?

RE: Tangent assy. constraint?

RyanRun,
2 constraints needed.  first constrain the axis of the cone shape to the axis of the o-ring.  next constraint will be a surface contact constraint from the cone shape to the o-ring

Derek

I was trying that, but the contact constraint does not work.  When I select the contact constraint, I can select the c'sink surface, but it does not allow me to select the o'ring (Created with a revolved circle).

RE: Tangent assy. constraint?

you might have to create some 'dummy' geometry to get that second constraint. Something like a plane passing through the centercurve of the o-ring, and a plane passing through the center of the groove.

RE: Tangent assy. constraint?

Are the parts contextually linked?

RE: Tangent assy. constraint?

(OP)
No they are not.  I was just hoping that there was some type of tangency constraint I was overlooking.  The same o-ring could be used in many different Products.

I just wanted the oring to stay tangent to the c'sink if there were dimensional changes to a part.

RE: Tangent assy. constraint?

Are you using version 14,15 or 16 of catia?

RE: Tangent assy. constraint?

(OP)
Version 14

RE: Tangent assy. constraint?

Hi,

On the o'ring create a reflect line with the angle value of the cone. create a point on this curve.
Then coincidence between point and cone surface.

RE: Tangent assy. constraint?

in fact the point cannot be constraint to the face but the reflect line can be in CONTACT with the cone surface.
