HEAT LOSS IN AN AGITATED TANK

HEAT LOSS IN AN AGITATED TANK

HEAT LOSS IN AN AGITATED TANK

(OP)
Dear Sir,

I am looking to calculate heat required to maintain a cylindrical insulated tank with heavy oil @160 F. The oil is heavy oil like a sludge. The heating medium will be a condensing steam at 130 psig and 355 F using steam templates in tank.

The tank will also be in circulation and constantly oil is added and fed to a tower at the same time a liquid hold up is there.

Tank dimensions are dia 12' height 30' and the liqd level hold up 15 ft.

The question is how do i calculate the heat required to keep the tank at the temp of 160. the ambient temp is 85F.

Kindly reply

RE: HEAT LOSS IN AN AGITATED TANK

How do you find the transfer coefficient of the tank?

What class is this for?

An excellent lesson on practical heat transfer and the selection, design and maintenance of steam systems is by Spirax Sarco. www.spiraxsarco.com.

Within these modules are "rules of thumb" containing heat transfer coefficients for tanks in your situation.

Use 0.4 BTU/ft2 degree F for an average coefficient of an insulated tank in this temperature range. Calulate the steam required.

My opinion only
