die exhaust suggestions
die exhaust suggestions
(OP)
I've trying to design a die exhaust system for a plastics manufacturer and I'm coming up against some walls. I've got the industrial ventilation manual and I can not find a section that describes how many CFM I should be exhausting from the area. I'm planning on using a 3X2 canopy hood to remove 1800 cfm at a capture velocity of 100 fpm anda static pressure of 1.5 "wc from a plastic extrusion machine. Can anyone help in regards to the number of CFM I'm pulling; Am I close, is there a reference I don't know about, should the equipment manufacturer provide such information.
Any comments or suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

RE: die exhaust suggestions
From what little I know of extruders, most of what you'll capture is odor, fumes and a little smoke, which are minimal for a properly functioning extruder running a stable process, but could be problematic (absent ventilation) during startup, process tuning, or when something goes wrong and the machine squirts plastic onto its heaters.
