Chevy TBI injector spray

Chevy TBI injector spray

Chevy TBI injector spray

(OP)
I believe I am have problems with the injectors in my Chevy TBI on a 5.7L.
It is very hard to see the spray pattern by just shining a light at the injector.
I was woundering if I could use my timing light to see the spray pattern?
Any hints on how to do so if it is a useful technique.
One thing I did notice was the the sides of the port and butterfly were wet to the point of running.
Is that normal?

Well to answer to my first question is yes.
You need a timing light with an advance control and to see the second injector you need to put the pick up lead on another wire other than #1.
So now another question, does anyone know of a site that has photos of good and bad spray patterns?

Before you do anything else, put a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel tank and take a long drive.

MMO in the fuel tank???  Does that stuff have no end to it's uses?

RE: Chevy TBI injector spray

Those TBI injectors have a very wide spray pattern so it is normal to see wetting of the side of the throttle body and butterfly.  Most of the evaporation (at idle) takes place in the small gap between the butterfly and the bore.

MMO is the only fuel additive that ever made a difference detectable to me.
