How to copy and paste
How to copy and paste
(OP)
Hi, I have two model of cars, one with suspensions&wheels and one without suspensions&wheels. Is there anyway to kind of copy and paste the suspension&wheels from one model to the other? If there is, pease be discriptive because i am not an I-deas expert!

ie. in order to see the entire vehicle, do you get to Workbench an assembly or a part. If it is an assembly, when you select Assembly Hierarchy from the Master Assembly Workbench is there a tree/hierarchy of part instances that make up the "Car" assembly?

what do u think?

Using the "Filter" options may help you to select the Surfaces you want. If the surfaces of the different parts are shown in different colours then this will be quite easy since you can select using a colour attribute.
If they are all one colour then this may be a long task. "Surface Chain" On under MB3 may help a little.
You may be lucky that under "History Access" you have a tree of Nodes where each part is represented by a Node. It all depends how this data got into I-DEAS and how it got to be in a single part. If you have a tree of nodes with each representing a part then you can select the "Feature" (node) you want from the "History Access" and "Extract" it.
Extracted Features and Surfaces will initially exist as Untitled parts on the Workbench. It may be a good idea to name these parts as you extract them to make it easier to reuse them.
When you have the Wheel and Suspension info extracted then you can retrieve your second car part on to the Workbench and add the missing parts in using the Boolean "Add" command.
