Need Plotter/printer advice

Need Plotter/printer advice

Need Plotter/printer advice

(OP)
I just took over as IT support mgr for an engineering firm. They currently have an old KIP America  4900 printer that when it works, prints very fast. But, it seems that the design of the plastic gears tends to have it down every couple months for repairs....

Any suggestions on good, fast, reliable printers for autodesk projects (cadd)... large format paper size... just for black and white (our HPdesk jet handles the color just fine)....

RE: Need Plotter/printer advice

Need to know a bit more about your requirements and budget before making a tailored recommendation...

We're using an HP Designjet 1050c - it runs about 15-20 30x42 sheets an hour, fully networked, handles up to 36" rolls, with decent print quality.  We're printing an average of 50-75 pages/day.  Service calls have been pretty minimal, and they've fixed the magenta-ink-formulation issue that dogged 'em when they were first released.  Downside is that one of 'em will cost you $7k-$10k.

Thanks for the information. We are using the HP Design Jet 1050C also. Color printing everything when you don't need to can get expensive... Currently the old KIP America 2900 prints black and white at very high speeds, and it is also a scanner.

We would be looking at replacing that.

RE: Need Plotter/printer advice

We recently switched to Oce and it seems to very well built and have a good reputation for reliability. I would contact local rep and see demo and get info if you have not made selection yet.

RE: Need Plotter/printer advice

The Kip we have had for four months has only worked for maybe 20 days of that time without a service call. And I think I'm being generous. Sometimes more than one service call a day. We've been down for days waiting for parts. After they got the replacement parts they couldn't make it work because they didn't have new matching repair manuals. I'd be careful.

Thats after 45 years of Oce Bruning. MIS is now in charge and we are saving about $150 a month.
