PIPING MATERIAL SELECTION

PIPING MATERIAL SELECTION

PIPING MATERIAL SELECTION

(OP)
IS THERE A FREE ONLINE COMPLETE GUIDE FOR PIPING MATERIAL SELECTION IN THE INTERNET ?

RE: PIPING MATERIAL SELECTION

In general, i would say no.  Material selection is a broad field that people spend lifetimes studying small parts of.  You can probably find some partial guidelines and reocmmendations, but really, such a complete tome on material selection would probably be twice the size of wikipedia.

RE: PIPING MATERIAL SELECTION

No, not a "complete guide for piping material selection". The selection of material to fabricate a pipe line is based on many design inputs that require a specific knowledge of materials and their interaction with the intended service environment. If you have specific questions on material, I would consult with a materials engineer.

RE: PIPING MATERIAL SELECTION

PIPING CLASSIFICATON SPECIFICATION INCLUED materila for services.

Do a search on google and you will find Refinery Piping Classification Specification and the detail calculation.

The other option is www.pip.org

I have completed the PIPING CLASSIFICATON SPECIFICATION for 7 refinery in the US in 2003.

RE: PIPING MATERIAL SELECTION

Materials will depend on constituents in the Crude - Sulfur, neut. number etc. You first need to know what the crude processed will be or if you should be designing for multiple sourced Crudes. Only then can you make appropriate materials selections for all the process streams described at the service pressure/temperature conditions.

RE: PIPING MATERIAL SELECTION

Hi Arash,

If you can get hold of a similar project which was done before, that will be a good guideline on how to proceed.
I did not see any unusual product among your list.

If you can get me more details about the Pressure Range, Temperature Range, Design Code and setermine if th eserivice is sour or not , i may be able to send you the relevant line classes.

RE: PIPING MATERIAL SELECTION

Arash,

Also keep in mind that there is a new ISO 15156/NACE MR0175 and MR0103 (which is a refinery spec).

These deal with hydrogen and chloride stress cracking.

Try "Materials Selection for Petroleum Refineries and Gathering Facilities" by R.A. White, published by NACE in 1998.
