Intellisketch not recognizing a perpendicular relationship

Intellisketch not recognizing a perpendicular relationship

Intellisketch not recognizing a perpendicular relationship

(OP)
Hi All,

I can not get Intellisketch to recognize a perpendicular relationship when using the rotate tool.  For example, I am trying to rotate a rectangle to be perpendicular with another line in Draft.  As I rotate the item, all the other relationships that are active show up, but it will not detect the perpendicular one.

I have tried turning off all the relationships except perpendicular, and still it will not detect it.

If I am drawing a sketch with a series of lines, the perpendicular handle will show, however, if I try to rotate a line, the perpendicular handle will not activate.

Has anyone else found this?

I am using Solid Edge 17.

Thanks in advance!

Tim

Me again,

This perpendicular handle also will not show in a Part sketch.  I have tried this on another computer, and had the same problem.

RE: Intellisketch not recognizing a perpendicular relationship

Hi,

that works IMHO as designed since V14 the 'rotate command' will not
honour this setting of IntelliSketch. It will show you the current
position of the cursor to be either horizontal or vertial or both aligned
with one keypoint of another element by a small dashed line. But why
use rotate? To make one line perpendicular to another line use the
perpendicular command
To make a rectangle perpendicular to a line either use the command with one
side of the rectangle or make one side of the rectangle parallel
to the line in question then at least 2 sides will be perpendicular
to that line.

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to answer!

Are you saying that it is not possible to rotate an item and have it snap to a perpendicular alignment?  Its seems hard to believe they would remove such a useful feature.

When drawing in 2D, which I do quite a bit of, I do not bother assigning any relationships to the parts of a drawing, as I have found it adds little benefits.

To have to assign 8 relationships to a rectangle in order to rotate it perpendicular to a line seems a bit excessive, when it could simply be done with the rotate tool.  Plus, with the rotate tool, I could rotate anywhere along the edges of the rectangle.

There are several dozen rectangles in most of the drawings I am producing, and assigning all these relationships would not be practical.  Is this really the only way an item can be placed square to another item?

Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

Me again,

The perpendicular handle is active in SE 15, but seems to have disappeared in 17.  Is this the same in 18?

Thx.
