pressure reversal in dual mechamical seals
pressure reversal in dual mechamical seals
(OP)
Hi guys!
Can anyone explain to me what is pressure reversal in dual mechanical seals and what are the effects with specific reference to an unpressurised buffer service?
I have been searching the net for info, but there is hardly anything.

There are some ways to counter act this with balance ratio.
Another issue is how your mating ring, usually the stationary seal face, is mounted. Most often seals are designed without a method to retain this face in reverse pressure- O-ring friction and an anti-rotation pin are most often used. But in a reverse pressure situation, it might be possible to unseat this seal face. Many seal mfgs offer mating rings that are balanced in much the same way that the rotating faces or primary rings are... Ask your representative about this.

The information was extremely useful in justifing the installation of pressure gauges on the barrier tanks of seals piped up with a combination of plans 41 & 52 without vent of tank to flare. As of now there is no method of telling what the pressure is inside the tank on ; for example a sunny day as JPellin mentioned.
