Sizing House connection for high rise buildings

Sizing House connection for high rise buildings

Sizing House connection for high rise buildings

(OP)
All,

How would you size the house connection for a high rise building, I know that no body put these in water distribution models so how do you size it ?

I thought about assuming a fixed velocity "say 0.5m/s" and use the peak demand for each building to come up with a reasonable size. normally this would be in the range of 0.5in or 3/4in , If I'm going to use this method I explained I will have 2in and maybe 100mm pipe. I'm not really convinced of assuming a fixed velocity but if it isn’t right then how would you size it ?

I'm also worried if I use too big house connections at the plots close to the source then very high velocities will be generated in them.

The source is a pumping station and I’m pumping to 1 day storage under ground tank in each building.

Regards

RE: Sizing House connection for high rise buildings

In the projects which I have worked on, we usually use 32mm for single lots, 64mm for several lots, 64mm for pubic lots (school,..). I think that 80mm is more than enough.
You can check how much flow you can get through a 80mm pipe, with max. headloss gradient 15m/km, max. velocity 1 m/sec; then compare it with the required flow to fill your storage tank.
