what to do with used 1500 kVA m/g set?????

(OP)
Hello.  I have a 1500kVA m/g set that I am looking to sell.  The Unit was built in 1984. The DC motor works perfectly and is in good shape.  The AC generator has a bad stator winding but otherwise is in good shape.  The run time is very low.  Anybody know how or where the best place to get rid of this would be?

RE: what to do with used 1500 kVA m/g set?????

Can I suggest you visit your local scrap-yard! Its only worth scrap value if the generator is faulty. You might find a repair company willing to buy it for spares or with a view to repairing it and selling it on but dont hold your breath while waiting. The DC motor on its own may be useful to someone but only if its a standard design.

Try www.surplusrecord.com. They buy & sell used motors & generators.

* Basically, I would like a full-time job on part-time basis *

How about trying to donate it to a technical school or vocational school and going for a tax write off. Our industry depends on the trade schools as much as on the universities and colleges. I believe that any time a company can give a little back to the education system behind us that it is a good thing.

Waross -- I like that idea but do you think a school would want one that big?  I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask.

It is big, but if a school has room for it, it may have some teaching value. A big AC machine takes a lot of power to do anything with, but a big DC machine can be motored at low voltage with a surprisingly little amount of power.
A vocational school where motor winders are trained is a good prospect. A heavy duty mechanics class is another prospect.
I hope it works out.
respectfully
