associatively pattern points along a curve

(OP)
a while back, in thread560-133304, the question was discussed of how to create a pattern of points along a user-defined line.  I was interested by a response from catiajim:

"catiajim (Aerospace)    1 Sep 05 12:55
The only way that I've found to do this is by using a combination of VB Script that is fired by a Knowledge Rule.  :( "

catiajim (or anyone who can help :), if you read this, can you please comment a bit on how you accomplished this?  I have been trying to figure out how to do this and am not having a lot of success.

Incidentally, even if the resulting set of points is not recognized as a "Pattern" (thus allowing conveniences like quick instantiation, etc) I would be happy just to be able to have a parametric "set of points creator tool".

Example application: update # of points on a loop depending on a input parameter "numPoints".

Thanks!

by the way, I guess I should have said "parametrically" instead of "associatively" in the thread title.

RE: associatively pattern points along a curve

The application I saw (I didn't write it, so I can't tell you more) involved a KWA Rule that watched a parameter (number of points).  When the parameter changed, it fired off a CATScript the deleted the existing points and created a new set of points using the new value.
