Line angle compression on spreader bar

Line angle compression on spreader bar

Line angle compression on spreader bar

(OP)
I am trying to calculate the line angle compression on an adjustable spreader bar. I am running into some trouble with the calculations for the% of load applied to the center of the bar through line angle to figure out what type of buckling I am going to run into. Any help would be great.

RE: Line angle compression on spreader bar

I am unsure of your exact configuration.  Can you supply an expanded description of you situation?

It sounds to me that you are talking of a line load on a cylinder(pipe) wall, and you are trying to determine the buckling load for the wall of the cylinder.  Assuming my interpetation is correct, Blodgett's "Design of welded structures" may be of some help.  In particular, section 6.6 may be of some help.
