Hello, I have a customer who is wondering if, after converting a pro-e .asm file into .stp, can he manipulate the file once he imports it, assuming he's using Solid Works?

RE: pro-e .asm to .stp

If by manipulate you mean modify dimensions, no you cant.
You can retain certain assembly information about its sttucture, but the parts are still 'dumb' blocks that lose the intelligence that the original pro/e file has (like dimensions & assembly constraints).

RE: pro-e .asm to .stp

Ask about FeatureWorks and SW ability to read native WF in a SW group.  I ~think~ it's possible they can get some editable features if the geometry is simple enough.

RE: pro-e .asm to .stp

My experience with Feature Works and SW opening WF files is that it is all marketing hype and the actual experience will be far from satisfactory.  If you make cubes or cylinders it will work but most parts come through with many missing features or the features are only their 2D sketch.  It may be better with the latest release, I used SW 2005.

RE: pro-e .asm to .stp

If the geometry is not to complex then feature works will do the job.  It might require some readjusting of the geometry.  I use it everyday.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time.
