Screen rolls and blacks out with multiple windows?

Screen rolls and blacks out with multiple windows?

Screen rolls and blacks out with multiple windows?

(OP)
I've got a problem here.  I'm wondering if it could be a graphics card issue...

When I open more than two files of any type and maximize the second window a black screen will roll up.  If I move the cursor over a line tht line alone will show up, and if I zoom it will all come back for a few seconds.  Generally if I just shrink the window back down to normal size it will be okay again, (but sometimes I have to close out of all files, and re-open) but that's rather annoying.  I like having more than one window open and being able to maximize all open windows...

BTW, I'm running Windows XP Pro on a Dell laptop, 1.7GHz, 1Mb RAM, with a GeForce FX Go5200 card.  I'm not really savvy on hardware, so any help is greatly appreciated...  I went to PTC's site, and my card showed up for Mac users, but not windows...

RE: Screen rolls and blacks out with multiple windows?

In my opinion it is a graphic issue. Switch the config.pro option "graphics" to "win32_gdi" instead of opengl (default) and see if the problem dissapear. But you'll lost performance with this setting.

RE: Screen rolls and blacks out with multiple windows?

I don't know if this will help, but with Wildfire 2, you can have maximised windows by default with the config.pro option:
open_window_maximized yes

I've got Wildfire 2, but I'm not finding either of those in the config.pro...

RE: Screen rolls and blacks out with multiple windows?

open_window_maximized yes - is a hidden config.pro option - you'll have to type it in, then restart Pro/e

Hmmm...  That's a new one one me.  Is there by chance a list of hidden options, and why are they hidden?

BTW, thanks...

RE: Screen rolls and blacks out with multiple windows?

Well, I changed to win32_gdi, and you were right, Hora.  It fixed my rolling screen issue, but may not be worth it since it seems to bog assemblies...  I'll probably just switch it back, and hope I can talk my boss into upgrading my laptop...

BTW, the maximize window option was somehting I had been looking for, and it works great.  It seems to help some with the rolling screen issue, since the window is just full size, it isn't actually maximized.  For some reason that still allows me to have at least two windows open without the rolling screen.  3 or more windows seems to be iffy...

Thanks...  and again, are there any lists showing the hidden options or why they're hidden?

RE: Screen rolls and blacks out with multiple windows?

Why they're hidden - they are unsupported options which might appear in future releases, so if Pro/e crashes because you use hidden options, don't call the help line.

I don't know how the OCUS site gets visibility to these hidden options when you can't find them from PTC...???

RE: Screen rolls and blacks out with multiple windows?

Try different versions of the video card driver and look into the settings of the driver. Try drivers off of the laptop manufacturers website first. Then the ones from the nvidia website.

Thanks, but at this point it looks as though my boss is going to get me a new machine with a graphics card off the PTC list.

Kinda off topic, but I just set up a dual monitor setup for the first time, and I'm already loving it!  New machine will have that capibility...  :D
