DC motor control

DC motor control

DC motor control

(OP)
I need to operate a 1 hp dc motor with a very short pulse control I am using a PLC for the timing but am questioning what the rresponse time of the motor will be since my on time will be 10 millisecond and off time will be apx 40 milliseconds. I am using this to operate pull rolls pulling metal strips. Also I am going through gear reduction to acomplish this. Any ideas would be helpful

RE: DC motor control

Please read my FAQ!

A 20% duty cycle is not unreasonable and and PIC seems
to be an acceptable choice. If the selected device has
as internal timer, it is not even too complicated
unless the specs are too stringent.

The gear may complicate the control.
But what is your question?

RE: DC motor control

A 50ms cycle time is very unlikely to be long enough to allow a relatively large motor to accelerate of decelerate significantly under any normal circumstances. Are you trying to generate a crude form of PWM with unusually long cycle time?

What do you expect the motor to do during the cycle period?
