High viscosity clear fluid wanted

High viscosity clear fluid wanted

(OP)
I'm looking for a high viscosity clear fluid.  By high I mean about the same consistency as radiator fluid for a car, maybe a little thicker like maple syrup.

What is this for?  I have a 'snow globe' that has bits of gold in it that I picked up in Alaska as a souvenir about 10 years ago.  The fluid that is in it got very cloudy (and corroded (oxidized) some of the 'gold' finish - suspicious, eh?  Fools gold, or a major chemical breakthrough!).  With the high viscosity the bits settle very slowly after a shake.

The hobbie and craft stores used to sell the fluid.

typically its just glycerine although you could use baby oil, clear olive oil, or simply buy a cheap globe, open it and use that.

Try silicon oil.  It is used in labs when you need to heat viscous samples but are required to view the sample during the process.  Very stable and probably the right viscosity you are after.

Corn syrup is clear.
