Best VAR for a single license.

Best VAR for a single license.

Best VAR for a single license.

(OP)
I need a single license of SW Office Pro and a year's maintenance (to get 2007).  I don't plan on ever talking to the VAR again, since I don't need training/support, so I'm willing to buy the license from whomever will give me the best deal.  Anyone have a recommendation?

Forgot to say: I'm in the United States.

3DVision also supports Ohio and Kentucky as well as Indiana.

Thanks CBL!

RE: Best VAR for a single license.

Has anyone found much price variation between VARs?

From what I have been led to believe (from the VARs here in Ontario) the price is set by SW. I assume to prevent price wars between VARs.

cheers

RE: Best VAR for a single license.

Since you don't need training and support and don't plan on talking to the VAR again it doesn't matter who you buy it from because SW doesn't discount anyway.  They are also all regional in their sales so SW will force you to purchase from a VAR in your area.  The only extra benefit I can see that you could get in your case is lease deals if you want to go that route.  You could also talk to the VAR that you will ultimately purchase from and see if they have heard about any future SolidWorks deals that are coming like the old CADKey deals from the way back past.

RE: Best VAR for a single license.

I've found timing to be important in some cases--but I think this is also more of a SolidWorks thing than a local VAR thing.

I once saw a discounted package deal for Office once, discounted upgrade to "bigger" Office packages, and financing discounts as well as discounts for those who have a valid license from competition, such as Autodesk.

So you may want to consider jumping into the game with such timing in mind--you may get a discount on the initial purchase or on support renewal.

Reason trumps all.  And awe trumps reason.

RE: Best VAR for a single license.

VAR's occasionally have "midnight madness" sales on SolidWorks, depending on how slow things are for them.  They pay a fixed price to SolidWorks for the various licenses; how much profit they make on those licenses is generally up to them.  Most VAR's charge MSRP, though.

Purchasing a single license should not be a problem, since most VAR's recognize that single-license purchases often lead to larger accounts down the road.  True, you might not be able to get much of a price break with a single license, but you won't get ripped off either.

RE: Best VAR for a single license.

Those midnight madness sales are usually end of year sales promotions to boost numbers and the discounting has to be approved by someone from SolidWorks.  So at this time of year for a one seat, one person, special discount is highly unlikely.

I let 3 VARs quote.  One got back to me with MSRP, one was able to discount ~10% and I still haven't heard back from the 3rd.
