Why no PERSPECTIVE Views allowed in Drafting?

Why no PERSPECTIVE Views allowed in Drafting?

Other less powerful CAD systems allow this. Why can't you insert a perspective view into your drawing sheet?

Thanks!

RE: Why no PERSPECTIVE Views allowed in Drafting?

You can do this, but maybe not as easily as mid-range CAD programs can do.

From the Modeling application, orient your part/model to the desired view and apply any other settings necessary.  Once you have the part/model the way you want it to look, save the view (View -> Operation -> Save As) and give the view a unique name that is NOT a canned view name that's already being used.

Now go over to Drafting and create an imported view using the named view you created in Modeling.

If that's not what you want, then you're going to have to give an example.

That method doesn't work as I've tried that before.

It gives an error that says you cannot do perspectives. Maybe it's the NX2? Does NX3 allow it?

Thanks

RE: Why no PERSPECTIVE Views allowed in Drafting?

My mistake....I was thinking of adding a view OTHER than the canned views.

NX doesn't allow for perspective views in Drafting...not sure why anyone would want one either because the dimensioning would be all out of whack.  What in the world are you wanting a perspective view in Drafting for?

I'm actually designing a house in UG (yeah... slightly overkill, but I deteste AutoCAD).

Perspetive views are very useful in the architectural drawing.

It just seems wierd that you cannot have it.

RE: Why no PERSPECTIVE Views allowed in Drafting?

Starting in NX 3, any non-orthogonal view on a drawing can be set to be in Perspective.  Just select the boundary of the view, press MB3 and select Style and go to the tab labeled "Perspective" and toggle on the "Perspective" option.  You can also set the distance factor to control the extent of the "vanishing point" effect.
