U-Stamp Vessel

U-Stamp Vessel

(OP)
Hi
After HydroTested (No Heat Treatment) and Certified by AI. One attachment (non pressure) will be welded to the vessel body. Any restriction in the ASME Viii Div 1?. What is the procedures?. Any help

RE: U-Stamp Vessel

UG-99 says test after completion of fabrication. It doesn't say anything else so you are obligated to retest. I've tried getting this past the AI on numerous occasions without success.

RE: U-Stamp Vessel

Talk to your AI.  Even if he/she is really hung up on this, you could likely do it on an 'R' Form without a hydro

RE: U-Stamp Vessel

Correct. Weld the attachment as part of installation under a current R-Certificate of Authorization, if it is truly a repair.

RE: U-Stamp Vessel

I tried the 'R' form once before but was rejected by the AI. The repair Code API-510 only covers vessels which have been placed into service.

RE: U-Stamp Vessel

If the original data report has been signed by the AI, they should not have a problem with the 'R' Form approach.  If the AI does have a problem with that, I would discuss it with the AI supervisor.
