Design of continuous WQ-Beams

Design of continuous WQ-Beams

Would appreciate to know if there is any good design book, manual, or guide on the 'Design of Continuous WQ-Beams'.
Any advice? Thanks in advance!

RE: Design of continuous WQ-Beams

What is a WQ Beam?

RE: Design of continuous WQ-Beams

Its not a Wide Flange (WF)....perhaps its a "wacky quacky" beam?  ..sorry, just getting stupid here - I'd second the question - what's a WQ beam?  Never heard of it.

RE: Design of continuous WQ-Beams

There was an excellent little spreadsheet program posted in the spreadsheet forum for the design of continuous beams.  You might want to look there.  It's a matter of determining what loads are on the beam and what loads are likely to be on different spans to determine the maximum effect.  The local code may stipulate what minimum loads should be applied and the loading pattern to be used.  The spread sheet does not permit the support stiffness to be addressed.

I thought the WQ may have been a typo, but couldn't find a letter near the W unless his typing finger hit both keys and the beam is simply a W or wide flange.  If so, it's a matter of selecting a steel section with a sufficient moment capacity.  There are a few other issues that should be addressed such as bearing, crippling and lateral support.

JAE... I think you dissed him off... Dik

RE: Design of continuous WQ-Beams

dik...well, I didn't mean to - I was really just surprised by the designation and I'd just taken a crazy pill moments before and...

He hasn't answered back - I'd be curious to know if its a legit label - Ussuri's link seems to imply it real.

RE: Design of continuous WQ-Beams

JAE:...sokay... BTW, do you have a handfull of thoe pills left... they souund like they would go well with a 6 pack <G>

RE: Design of continuous WQ-Beams

I got them from some architects.  Just look at their designs and you can tell which ones are addicted to them.
