Canvassing Substation Battery Testers

Canvassing Substation Battery Testers

Canvassing Substation Battery Testers

(OP)
Hello,

I work for a Midwest utility as a substation maintenance engineer and am wondering what battery testers are generally used on substation batteries.  We use a Megger/Biddle BITE2, which tests cell impedance, strap impedance, and cell voltage.  Is this common?  Have there been problems with the BITE tester?  Are other battery testers available?

Thanks.

RE: Canvassing Substation Battery Testers

We have a number of the Midtronics Celtron units and have had the opportunity to compare them side by side with the Biddle units.  We found them both to track equally and come up with the same results. We like the Midtronics units as they are lighter and easier to use IMHO.

I've been out of that area for a few years but I remember using Alber products.

We have used the Ebite for years and never had a problem
