Is it possible to open a file View Only through PDM/Works?

I know you can go File - Open - Browse to PDM Vault and open that way, but it would be useful if you could open it from the PDM menu.

Thanking you in advance.

Regards

RE: Open View Only through PDM/Works

Are you talking about the SolidWorks main menu “File” button?
Now click Tools, in the SolidWorks main menu, then click “PDMWorks…” in the pull down. You find your file here in the lower left window “My Vault( server name ) / Your name.
Right mouse, search and open here.
I hope this helps.

Bradley

If you are using SW with file explorer use that to get to where you want to go. If pdmworks is active you should be able to see the vault tree.

Hi Bradley - I followed your instructions but I don't see how that allows you to open a file View Only - am I missing something?

I know how to do it from within SolidWork (FILE - OPEN then select the file and click "View Only" - but you don't seem to get that option through PDM/Works.

Thanks

RE: Open View Only through PDM/Works

I think what you are wanting is the difference between taking ownership or not.
If you are not the owner the document opens read only, if you take ownership, you can modify and save it again.

I am pretty new at this myself, but the above seems to work for me.

"View Only" allows you to open a document without loading it into memory - useful for printing, viewing certain areas etc. - taking ownership is not the issue.

I don't believe you can open a file "view only" through the PDM/Works interface. Can anyone advise otherwise?

RE: Open View Only through PDM/Works

If you have access to the Web Portal, you can open files in view only.  It utilizes E-drawings.

If not, you can also right click on the document, select Document Information and select the View tab.  Or select the View with E-drawings icon.  This is an E-drawings interface.

Hope that's what you were looking for.
