Alter Variable voltage power supply to steady voltage supply

Alter Variable voltage power supply to steady voltage supply

Alter Variable voltage power supply to steady voltage supply

(OP)
Hello,

I'm working with a power source that will vary voltage from 40 to 30 volts as it gives power.  I want to have a steady voltage for running equipment off, straight DC, at 24 volts.  Any suggestions on how to accomplish this?  I've found a lot of tips on using pulsed DC for this purpose.  Any thoughts on that?

RE: Alter Variable voltage power supply to steady voltage supply

I must not be understanding your question..

Why are you not just using a standard fixed voltage regulated power supply?

The power supply is the key component in the system.  It is the one variable that is not to be replaced.  I'm trying to use it to power a 24 volt motor, to drive the mechanical system I am working on.  The power supply is unfortunately a fixed part of the project.  The thing that isn't fixed is its voltage.

RE: Alter Variable voltage power supply to steady voltage supply

Feed the input of a voltage regulator IC from the variable DC supply. You can still use the variable supply for whatever purpose you want, and use the stable 24V DC from the regulator output for your other loads.

Without any information about how much current you need at 24V DC it is hard to help more.
