Bond Beam as Diaphragm Chord
Bond Beam as Diaphragm Chord
(OP)
When designing a bond beam as a diaphragm chord, can vertical control joints in the wall really be compatible? Anyone have a tip on how you make these two work together?
When was the last time you drove down the highway without seeing a commercial truck hauling goods?

RE: Bond Beam as Diaphragm Chord
You can have some contol over joint and lintel locations and spacings, but a diaphragm chord necessarily has to be continuous. The structural considerations trump shrinkage considerations in my opinion. This is what Amerhein says too. This is a good question.
