We are installing a 150 psig Code heat exchanger as aftercooler on a 40 psig centrifugal compressor.  The relief valve for the system is on compressor discharge piping.  We plan not to use a PSV on the exchanger, using the system PSV for vessel protection.  Are within Code requirements?  Please take a look at thread292-149925 and comment....

RE: Code Case 2211 and UG-125(g)

I think you need to have PSV if there is possibility of blockage of the HE equipment and where compressor PSVs are way from the blockage piping system.
If there is no isolation valves in between, using PSV of compressor would be possible if these safety valves can cover the max flow of the governing case of the HE.

I guess so !!
