Is there any method of Alignment of pumps and rotating machineries other than RI method FOD method? Conventional and easy way to do alignment?Factors to consider the alignment types

depends upon machinery type, but bottom line is, follow mfg recommendations using a skilled/experienced/qualified millwright!

please elaborate meaning of RI method FOD?

RI method means Reverse Indicator method and FOD means Face OD method. They are conventionally in use for shaft alighning of rotary equipments

We do all of our alignments with laser equipment.  The systems are expensive (about $15,000US).  But they pay for themselves in time savings along.  The last time I did a reverse indicator alignment, it took met over 2 hours.  The same alignment with laser equipment would have taken perhaps 30 minutes.  Time pays for the system, but you also get a better result.  Better alignment means less vibration, less load on bearings, longer bearing and seal life.  If lasers were not available, I would only consider RI for most applications.  The only place I ever saw Rim and Face work well was for a very, very large grid coupling with a small coupling gap on a sleeve bearing motor.  For that one it was the best option.
