two ply gypsum shear value

two ply gypsum shear value

does anyone have any values for 2 ply 5/8" gypsum sheathing on each side of a metal stud. The IBC has values for 2 ply gyp sheathing for wood studs, but not for metal studs.

RE: two ply gypsum shear value

Table 2211.1(2) of the IBC 2000????

RE: two ply gypsum shear value

(OP)
table 2211.1(2) gives values for one layer of gyp on each side of a metal stud. I am wanting the value for 2 pieces on each side.

RE: two ply gypsum shear value

I've never heard of any research or data allowing such a thing.  Only some tables for plywood over gyp-bd for seismic retrofit.  Certainly nothing in the IBC.

RE: two ply gypsum shear value

I would not rely on gyp board to provide lateral stability! Why not use plywood!!

It sounds to me that you are splitting hairs or trying to make lemonade from a lemon.

Lutfi
