i refered to several pattern of process producing phthalic anhydride through oxidation of o-xylene and i found out that after seperation of gases and liquid phthalic anhydride, the bottom product of switch condenser (Phthalic anhydride) will be stored in solid phase in a storage tank befare futher seperation in distillation column. do anyone have idea on the purpose of that storage tank since this process is an continuous process.

dear christine,
it may because the process need certain amount of phthalic anhydride to continue the process, thus product from switch condenser will be store before go to distillate column to avoid drying

RE: looking for opinion

Although it is a continuos process, u still need a storage tank for some safety, controlability and operation purposes. For instance, if u need to do some modification partially to your plant, u can still manage to do that.

Dear KK'
Thanx for ur answer but what is the safety and controlability ppurpose u mean?
why the product is stored in solid form since it is in liquid foorm when come out from switch condenser.
