Groove welds

Groove welds

My problem is that I can't get the groove weld command to work on a full penetration weld. (a gap between the two pieces being welded) It gives me the error
"Could not project the target bottom path onto the base surface. Edit bead projection option or define the base bottom path".

Any help on what I'm doing wrong.

RE: Groove welds

Which version of Solid Edge are you using?

they said that with V18 they improved the weldment function but I didn't use it yet so I don't know if it can be a solution.

Maybe a thing to do would be to model it with a protrusion or another modeling features and then tag it as a weldment.

If you don't know how to do it let me know and I will give you some explanations.

Good luck

Patrick

Sorry...I'm working in Solid Edge v18. I have gone through the tutorial and it was not helpful.

RE: Groove welds

I went to an update seminar about a month ago and the instructor, John Haslam, demonstrated something like this.  My memory is a little fuzzy, but if I recall, he went back through the ribbon bar to the path steps and selected an additional path on the other side of the weld.  That allowed SE to complete the weld.  I'll look back through my notes and see if I can recall what he did.

Thank you Kyle, but don't waste your time. Somebody already pointed me in the right direction.

Thanks for the help though.
