Mounting Pulley to Shaft

Mounting Pulley to Shaft

Mounting Pulley to Shaft

(OP)
Can anyone point me towards the best way to mount a pulley to a shaft. I was originaly planning on press fitting the pulley, however my current one piece bracket will not allow this. The system will be used to control position so I can not have alot of slop in the rotational direction (will a keway still work). The torque values are low as well as the rotational speed.

Thanks

RE: Mounting Pulley to Shaft

There are several possibilities so if you can comeback with a little more information like the materials for the pulley and shaft, some sizes and the loads and speed.

RE: Mounting Pulley to Shaft

If the torque is reversing then friction is the best method of assuring no movement between shaft and pulley.  Ringfeders or tapered bushings or similar work well.  Of course if there is an overload and the friction grip is too low then you will have a spinning, out-of-control pulley.  You can also combine the ringfeder and a keyway.  For normal operation there is no slippage but if there is an overload then the key will keep the pulley from spinning.

RE: Mounting Pulley to Shaft

If the torque is in one direction only, a key is fine.  QD tapered hubs are a tried and true method of securing pulleys to shafts.

The torque will be reversed. I have actually decided to go with  an internal locking assembly (self-centering). Does anyone recomend a specific company.

Thanks
