Dynamic fire damper listing

Dynamic fire damper listing

Dynamic fire damper listing

(OP)
I have been specifying Ruskin DIBD-2 fire dampers since I started my career

It has been brought to my attention that those dampers are not UL listed in horizontal installations for sizes larger than 24x24

http://database.ul.com/cgi-bin/XYV/template/LISEXT/1FRAME/showpage.html?name=EMME.R5531&ccnshorttitle=Dampers+for+Fire+Barrier+and+Smoke+Applications&objid=1075829623&cfgid=1073741824&version=versionless&parent_id=1073986213&sequence=1

Apparently this is the same for Prefco, Nailer, etc

What have you been specifying?

same issue with nca ....

http://database.ul.com/cgi-bin/XYV/template/LISEXT/1FRAME/showpage.html?name=EMME.R10315&ccnshorttitle=Dampers+for+Fire+Barrier+and+Smoke+Applications&objid=1076128023&cfgid=1073741824&version=versionless&parent_id=1073986213&sequence=1

It appears that only the 3V multi-blade dampers are UL listed ...... same as Ruskin

RE: Dynamic fire damper listing

Use the multiple damper installation for larger openings.  The openings can go up to 72x96.

Are multiple dampers UL listed?

RE: Dynamic fire damper listing

The UL listing includes for installation of single or multiple dampers.  The dampers would be interconnected such that a single fusible link activates them all.

the maximum size for a dynamically rated curtain type fire damper is 48x36 in the horizontal position ..... this is the maximum size UL will test for that application

else you have to go to a static rated curtain damper or a fire/smoke damper

one has to look at the free area and static pressure drop due to elbows, etc

i will post again when i get all the info
