intermediate profile error in sweep

intermediate profile error in sweep

(OP)
Hi, I am working on a part involving a move from a 1x0.68 inch rectangle in the x-y plane to a .75x.47 inch rectangle in the x-z plane. I've done this on a couple of other parts where I sketch the profile of the first rectangle and use 3D splines to sketch a path from center and guide curves from the corners.  I would then do a swept boss and set the options to follow the first and second guide curves if the sweep looked odd. This time, however, I am getting an error saying "Intermediate profile #2 could not be solved. Consider editing the relations and dimensions of the original sketch." Does anyone know what I can do to correct this? I've tried changing it so there are no relations and dimensioning the lines separately and still get the same message. Thanks in advance for your help.

RE: intermediate profile error in sweep

That almost sounds like the rectangle is trying to turn a corner too sharply and intersecting with itself.  Double-check your path to make sure the radius isn't shorter than the length (or width) of your rectangle in any area along the way.

Another way you can do this is with loft sections--almost the same in this case.  Create your sections or your path and guides and loft them together.

Thanks a lot, I keep forgetting about lofts because I get so wrapped up in swept features.  The loft worked flawlessly.
