Leaktesting of valves

Leaktesting of valves

Leaktesting of valves

(OP)
Hi. I'm looking into a project for installing an arragment for leaktest of shutdown valves in open position. Maybe by using the cavit vent to check for internal leaks. Do anyone have experience with this and/or is this used somewhere in the industry? Thanks.

Back in the 1990's, the US EPA spent a number of years doing leak tests on valves in refineries and chemical plants.  The results of their work are included in EPA-458/R-95-017, "Protocol for Leak Equipment Emission Estimates" published in the EPA document "AP 42, Compilation fo Air Pollutant Emission Factors".

AP 42 is available online. If you carefully read the Wikipedia article at the following site, you will find how to access AP 42 as well as EPA-458/R-95-017, "Protocol for Leak Equipment Emission Estimates".

Hi Milton.
Thanks for your answer. Very useful but my first step is to get an idea of the set-up with valves, piping etc. (DBB) and then monitor for a pressure build up in the internals of the valve. Just started this study and I was keen to know if someone had experience with this kind of leaktesting. The idea is to test the valves in open position and thereby reduce amount of down-time caused by maint.!
Thanks a lot.
