trim imported curves

trim imported curves

(OP)
Hi,

I have received an iges file, which contains curves exported from another cad system. I can open these in Solidworks without any problems but I need to trim these with a plane so I can find the length of the curve, which I will use in programming.

Is there a way to trim these curves with a plane? The imported curves appear as "ImportedCurve##" in feature tree.

Thanks.

Ahmet

RE: trim imported curves

Yes ... check out trim, surfaces in the index section of the SW Help files.

RE: trim imported curves

Thanks, but I want to trim the curve, not the surface. I created a flat surface, and want to trim the curve using this surface.

Any ideas?

RE: trim imported curves

Make a 3D sketch, copy the curve into the sketch using "Convert Entities", then trim as needed.  Measure result.

Thanks. Create 3D Sketch, Convert Entities, and Split Entities using intersection point, delete the rest and measure.

It works beautifully.
